I want Help with BlueMind Setup & Best Practices

Hey everyone,

I am new to BlueMind & trying to get everything set up smoothly. Also I have gone through the documentation but I still have a few questions & could use some advice from experienced users.

I got BlueMind installed but I want to make sure I have optimized it properly. Are there any must-do tweaks or settings that improve performance and stability?
What is the best way to back up emails and other data? I want to avoid any risk of losing important stuff.
Has anyone successfully integrated BlueMind with third-party apps like Outlook, Thunderbird, or even mobile devices? Any common pitfalls to watch out for?
What are the most common issues you have faced & how did you resolve them?

I am also taking a java course so I want to hear if there are any useful scripts or automation tricks that could make managing BlueMind easier.

Thank you…

Hi,

the documentation should get you on track with the best tweaks and settings for a mostly optimal performance and stability.
Backups are covered in this section of the documentation: Backing up and Restoring Data | BlueMind doc

About fat clients: So far the Outlook clients are behaving wonderful. Fully integrated, default Outlook features. Mobile devices work over Microsoft Exchange → also work pretty good.

Apple devices were working fine, but since 5.2 they are doing something at CalDAV and it’s a mess. Sometimes working, sometimes not.

Thunderbird is in my opinion just not supported by BlueMind. If you want advanced features like sharing calendars and address books, you must use their Thunderbird Addon. So native Thunderbird is from start out of question. (Also the autoconfig does not work at us, we had to do it ourselves. Might be specific to us though)
If you do not need the advanced features, you can also add the main calendars over CalDAV in Thunderbird, but at least in our case, this does not work at some users (~15% of the users - CalDAV TB reports no calendars found at location), and also we can’t see any free busy over CalDAV right now (the Free/Busy problem might be a problem specific for us, don’t know - since our support partners usually need 1 month to answer a ticket or do any progress in them).
If you do use their TB Addon, first of all there are no Reminders. Only system notifications that only work when the calendar tab is open. (There’s a feature request open to make them work with calendar tab closed - fingers crossed)
Also their Calendar in the TB Addon (and Webmailer) will not work if your resolution is too high, as appointments from 08:00 will appear as if they are at 08:15.

So if you’re an Outlook/Apple user, you will not have many issues. If you’re using Thunderbird, however… you will have to find some self made solutions.

P.S. Their open source code base has 4 million lines +. All premium features come extra. Good luck doing something there.
